Dialogue was successful in Recital Music's 2011 Composition Competition and is playable by bassoon, or cello (with some minor adjustments) and double bass. This edition comes with two playing scores for practice purposes, but in performance the players will have to read from one score to ensure the page turns work. The double bass part is in orchestral tuning.

Peter Grans writes: 'There is no specific programme for Dialogue, but there is a good opportunity to ask the eternal questions 'Why!?' and the answer 'Why not?' The best was to ask the question and to get an answer is simply to play the piece!'

Finnish double bassist Peter Grans was born in 1954, also works as a composer and arranger, and graduated from the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki.

Dialogue was premiered in the city of Lohja (Finland) on 21 April 2010 by Duo Fasso (Eero Toikka - bassoon / Peter Grans - double bass). The duo perform a wide range of repertoire including works by Mozart and Roussell, alongside arrangements by Peter Grans.
